Welcome to Widemouth Class!

Spring Term:

It has been fantastic to welcome the year 6's back into school after the Christmas break. They have settled in extremely well and have made a great start to the Spring. This term our main project is 'Frozen Kingdom'. We will be studying many aspects of the Earth's poles, including animal adaptations, where they are located and travel and tourism in the poles.

In maths, we are starting the new term learning about decimals. We will then be learning about percentages followed by how fractions, decimals and percentages are related.
In English, we are starting the Spring term writing in the style of Michael Morpurgo. We are studying the book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. Our Science learning will be based around 'Living things and their habitats' and will will tie in closely with our main 'Frozen Kingdom' topic.

 General Information:
PE is on a Monday and Tuesday so please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit on those day.

Children should read daily at home and parents/ carers are asked to sign their reading record four times a week.  Their reading books and journals should be brought into school every day.

The children will also have maths and English homework each week. This will be set on a Monday and will be due on the Friday of the same week.

Please could we remind you to send your child with a water bottle and appropriate clothing every day.

Please contact us if you have any questions or anything you would like to discuss.

Our main topic this half-term is 'Frozen Kingdom':

'Welcome to the planet’s coldest lands. Vast wilds and hostile territories; incredibly beautiful, yet often deadly. Take shelter from the elements or fall prey to icy winds and the deepest chill. Trek bravely and valiantly across treacherous terrain to the ends of the Earth, treading deep in snow or being pulled by a team of mighty sled dogs. Be alert, for magnificent mammals roam these lands, sometimes hungry or fresh for a fight. Perhaps a hungry polar bear or an Arctic fox is hunting rodents, as swift as the wind'.
